1980 CJ 5, let’s just say she needs some work. If you have a welder and a grinder with mechanical ability and want a toy, this is your Jeep. The Jeep has an okay paint job, I would call it a 20 foot looker. In the video I tried to show the patch and bondo job that was done by the previous owner. Everything is here to put this back together and make it drivable again. You may be missing some miscellaneous things like bolts and a few other small items. The previous owner did the 350 conversion. They did a great job mounting the motor or as good as you can stuffing that into a Jeep. They just didn’t do so well on the transmission mount, so things started to fall apart fast. It has the typical CJ 5 frame rot. There is everything to repair the rust on the frame, has all the body mount frame perches. This is not a restore it is just a fun mess around, tear it up Jeep. The body is too far gone and has had too much bondo to save it. The floor pans have been hacked in, basically you are buying all the parts from me and getting the Jeep for free. It does not move under its own power, but it can if you put it all back together. The motor, transmission, transfer case are all 70-80s GM, the rest is Jeep. The clutch is also good. Again it comes with everything you need to put it back together just might be a few miscellaneous things missing. 350 Chevy if my memory serves me right it is a 4 bolt main. When I bought it 6 years ago, he told me it was a fresh rebuild. It appears that way on the outside and it runs strong but I have no way to tell of the extent of the rebuild. Some people just throw rings in it, paint it and call it rebuilt. It runs well so I would say they did a lower end rebuild at least. The heads don’t seem like they have any issues, they run strong. It has a Holly 4 barrel dirt track carb on it. Accel HEI distributor. A very custom made air cleaner, by previous owner. They did update the rear lights and marker lights, all the blinker lights are there and updated, it does not have wiper arms on it. So that is something that will need to be addressed if you need wipers. All lights work. Transmission is a Muncie SM465 4 speed. Transmission is good and I painted it to match the motor, not that it needed that. Transfer case is an MP205, which is a brand new rebuild as seen in video. The front axle is a Dana 30 narrow track with Detroit lockers. The rear axle is a Dana 44 Jeepster commando with Detroit lockers (if my memory serves me correct). I do not remember what the gear ratio is. The tires are 36X12.5R15LT Radial/TSL. Rims are Mickey Thompson 15 inch fake bead lockers. Springs, shocks, and steering stabilizer are new (Rough Country). In video you will see the pile of parts it comes with, the safety cap frame repair panels, transmission mount crossmember and the bushing mount to do it the proper way, transfer case mount to help support all the cast iron and gears, enough sleeve and bushings to build a different transmission crossmember mount and to build the transfer case crossmember if you don’t like the transmission crossmember mount that comes with it. Honestly there is enough there you could build about 4 of them. Comes with all the perch mounts and 2 sets of different tub mount bushings. Speedo cable, plugs, wires, miscellaneous breathers, new shift linkage, clutch fork, new bell housing, bell housing cover, gaskets for the transmission adapter, comes with a new transmission transfer case adapter, both front and rear drive shafts, a bonus chrome skull shifter knob. Comes with new fuels line, front and rear brake lines. When I bought it the Jeep did not have rear brakes (it only has front brakes). I have never dug in and tried to find the rear brake setup assembly. The fuel tank is good, comes with a new sending unit, new tank straps, and hoses. My plans were always to twin stick the transfer case. Meaning you could kick the front axle out separate from the rear. You still have 4H 4L but it gives you the option to make it a front wheel drive or a rear wheel drive. It comes with a JB customs kit to do so which is pretty simple with a grinder. I can explain plenty more if you want to come look at it. I would not call this a basket case, I knew what I bought, it can be put back on the road if you have mechanical ability, a welder, a grinder, and metal fabrication ability. This was a running and functioning Jeep when I bought it and it can be put make together the same, just better with the parts that are here. It is not a rock crawler, it was built up to do dumb stuff. I have lost interest in the project, it has been sitting for 6 years in the corner. Somebody needs to do something with it. There is so many parts here it will take a little bit of cash and a bunch of work. The only thing to do is come look at it, again you are buying parts the rest is kinda free. The wheels, axles, springs and shocks, tires and motor are worth $6000 just by themselves. An MP205 transfer case, new rebuild is $1000. So you should see what you are getting here.
