Up for auction is an original, unmolested 1976 Jeep CJ7 Renegade Levis edition. It has the 304 V8 and Quadramatic full time, 3-speed automatic transmission.
Can be driven daily. Very smooth and quiet running motor. I spent a lot of time dialing it in so that it runs beautifully. I’ve driven it only around town in the few years I’ve owned it. It’s not seen dirt while in my care and it’s evident that it has generally been well taken care of. It’s always been in my shop out of the sun, and I was told it lived in a garage most of its life. This can really be seen when looking at the paint and interior.
-Original orange paint has a nice patina to it and the clear coat still polishes up nicely.
-Original tan/Levis dash pad is not cracked or dried out. Looks great and wipes clean easily.
-Minimal rust/corrosion. There is some surface rust in a few spots, but the only real area of corrosion is on the right rear panel. The chassis is free of corrosion.
-The previous owner added locking hubs. I guess the purpose was to be able to disengage the full-time 4WD, but I don’t know how effective that was. I was going to convert back to the original hub, but never got around to it.
-Very early hard top. Could use new struts.
-Updated electronic ignition.
-Carburetor was just rebuilt.
-Belts new a couple of years ago (but not that many miles ago).
-Original aluminum wheels included (see photo). They could be polished up and are generally in great shape. Comes with black aluminum wheels and tires with lots of rubber. Spare is full thread and matches the other 4 wheels/tires.
-New windshield gasket.
-Comes with new windshield frame to body gasket as well as some other odds n ends.
-Transmission pan/fluid just redone.
-New rear pinyon seal.
-Brake pads have a lot of life left.
-Has a Ramsey winch and controller. I’m unsure if it functions and I’ve never tested it.
-Valve cover gaskets are new.
-Added a brake booster for added performance to the 4 drum brakes.
-New air cleaner filter.
-Oil just changed.
-5 digit odometer shows 64806. Can’t know for sure, but I do suspect these are original miles given the overall condition of the Jeep.
-Two drilled holes on top of each fender as there used to be added lights there. I removed them, but holes are still there. Roughly 3/8″ holes.
-Tuffy center console that’s locking. It’s nice to have, especially when running errands if you need to lock up something small (key included)
-Included are two new new old stock “Levis” tags that can be used on the front seats if/when the new owner decides to re-upholster the front seats. The rear seat is in excellent condition and in my opinion doesn’t need and work at the moment. The two front buckets do have a few separated seams, but they’ve held steady for years now.
-Two really cool “Colorful Colorado” mud flaps.
-The seatbelts are all in great/well-functioning condition.
-Newer wiper blades.
-Newer radiator/hoses.
Has a couple of very minor fluid leaks; one from the transmission somewhere. I think this one is from one of the o-rings in the trans. I suspect this one would be east to remedy. The other leak is a slow seep from the transfer case. It looks like one of the large seals is seeping slowly.
-Added an o2 bung on the downpipe for tuning the carb. You or your shop will like this if you live at a low elevation and need to retune the carb. I live at 4700′ elevation for reference.
-Jeep was never lifted or modified in any major way. Only mods that I know of were listed above (added brake booster, electronic ignition, locking hubs).
-The floor mats are really nice and not ripped or gunked up.
-The doors are clean. Could use new window weatherstripping, but I pretty much always had the doors off so never bothered.
-The passenger door window regulator handle knob fell off. It’s included in the parts box and will need re-installed if you so desire.
-Alignment was recently done after a couple of the tie rods were replaced. Steering is nice and tight (as it gets for these old Jeeps).
-No power steering.
Overall this Jeep is a beauty and I get complements regularly. It makes me smile every time I drive it. It’s from 1976 so please don’t expect perfection…but it sure is nice. Has a few dings/scratches here and there as would be expected, but that stuff is minimal. My local Jeep shop said it’s once of the nicest original ones they’ve ever seen. I’ll surely miss it, but my son is driving now and I need to free up some space in the garage.
Buyer is responsible for shipping/transit. If you’re anywhere near western Colorado, this Jeep could easily be driven home without worry. I’ve had it on the highway a time or two and it does great.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions or additional photo requests. Someone will love this original beauty! Happy bidding!
